KINGSBURG POWER PLANT PUBLIC MEETINGS (03/25/2008)

The Florence County Citizens In Action will hold the second of two public meetings
on March 25 concerning Santee Cooper’s proposed 600-megawatt, coal-fired power
plant to be built in Kingsburg, South Carolina.

Speakers for the March 25 meeting will include Mark Pilgrim representative of Santee
Cooper and Jim Brogdon, the senior vice president and general counsel of Santee
Cooper,  who will address the growing need for electricity and the economic
contributions of the proposed plant. Pamplico Mayor, Gene Gainey, a supporter of
the proposed plant, will also be present at the meeting. The meeting will begin
at 6:00 PM and will be held at the Florence Bible Chapel located at the corner
of Second Loop and Woods Drive in Florence.

Mike King and Peggy Brown were speakers at the first meeting held February 25. Mr. King
and Mrs. Brown addressed the environmental impact of the coal burning plant on
the Pee Dee area. Among their concerns were increased mercury emissions and the
impact this would have on the health of citizens.

FCCIA feels that both sides of this controversial issue should be addressed at open
meetings.   The public is invited to the meeting and will be free to ask
questions and to voice concerns.
